Sampling of Religious Education Courses for Children

Storytime - Ages 3 and 4

The focus of this class is the recognition of one's feelings and one's relationship to others. The world of nature and a Unitarian Universalist view of the seasonal holidays are included. Classic children's literature forms the basis of this class.

Sacred Places, Sacred Spaces - Kindergarten, Grade 1

This curriculum develops a sense of "being at home" in the world and a supportive comfort level to help children: experience and learn about themselves, their religious community and the world of nature; address questions about life and death; participate in activities that engage the heart, mind and hand - building, eating, storytelling (including the story of Jesus' birth); living in homes and being "born". (This curriculum is an updated version of the former Haunting House class.)

Timeless Themes - Grades 2-4

Stories from the Judeo-Christian Bible are told from a UU point of view. Children come to understand why Jesus is the central figure of some of the world's major religions.

Beginning Unitarian Universalism - Grades 5-6

"We light this chalice for the energy of action." These words are repeated regularly during Children's Worship. This class gives the students a chance to do just that. They choose service projects that reflect their UU principles. They may visit local UU historical sites to discover what our faith has meant to those who preceded us.

Our Whole Lives - Grades 7-9 (Fall)

Our Whole Lives helps participants make informed and responsible decisions about their sexual health and behavior. It equips participants with accurate, age-appropriate information in six subject areas: human development, relationships, personal skills, sexual behavior, health, and society and culture.

Coming of Age - Grades 7-9 (Spring)

The Coming of Age program marks the transition to young adulthood. Spiritual awareness, knowledge about UUism and commitment to service and social justice are key components. The church community celebrates this passage at a special service in the spring.

Youth Group - Grades 8-12

The Youth Group, under the guidance of our youth leader, meets at various times through out the year for worship, service projects, retreats, and social activities.

For the most current offerings and to enroll your children, please contact the church office.
