Massachusetts Convention of Congregational Ministers
Spring Meeting
What Are We Looking For?
An exploration of Ministerial Formation Requirements
The Massachusetts Convention of Congregational Ministers as we know it began between 1692 and 1694 when Ministers in the Massachusetts Bay met to consider issues afoot in the land. The roots of the Convention go back to the Stour Valley in Suffolk England south of Cambridge. This Valley winds through towns bearing names like; Haverhill, Sudbury, Hadley, Sutton, Ipswich and Harwich with Dedham, Needham and Hartford nearby. These places cultivated a learned ministry and were noted for preaching and good local schools. The 1721 Convention met to hear a Convention sermon in May followed by a Dinner with members of the Great and General Court Popularly know as the Feast of Moses and Aaron. In 1949 Professor George Williams ardently pled that the MCCM not fold its tent, since it was the only Massachusetts clergy configuration not to split in the Unitarian Controversy.

The 28th MCCM SUMMER BARTH SESSION FOR PASTORS
Will gather in June 10th and 11th to discuss
Karl Barth's Theological Ethics and the Public Square- The Economy.
Our leader will be Dr. Daniel L. Migliore, the Charles Hodge Professor Emeritus of Systematic Theology at Princeton Theological Seminary.
We will take up Church Dogmatics III/4 pages 509-64; work as a part of the active life formed by God's covenant of creation. Professor Migliore asks,"Do we have a theology that understands the importance of work from the perspective of God's intentions for human life?" Our afternoon sessions will ponder statements by the administration on "jobs."
The fee for the two-day session will be $50. This includes the speaker, and breakfast and lunch and snacks an optional dinner at the parsonage on the evening of the 10th
